You've Come a Long Way Baby

LOL, my first polymer sculpture!! A piece I made for my sister about 15 years ago and she still has it! Funny how my Stubby kids ended up with the same hands 15 years later.

Getting Back into the Swing of it

Isn't family the best! There are few people I adore more than my siblings and their offspring. Its sad that I only get to see them about twice a year but when we do get together we have a blast!
My niece is getting married in September so we got to go to her bridal shower while visiting. She had a tea party and we were told to wear hats. Well, we all found the wackiest hat we could muster (my sister Christeen of avantegarb made hers and mine and I made NoraLeighs little top hat)
We had a wonderful little tea party and my niece is sure to be a beautiful bride!!
The rest of the time we just hung around mostly..games, a few beers, bbq's and lots o laughter.
But, it is time for me to get back to business. I'm hoping to get some dolls made this week, it's so hard to get back into the swing of things after a vacation but I am looking forward to getting back to creating.

Bethany and a Vacation

Bethany is most surely the last doll I will make before heading out on a much needed vacation.

You can read about the poor lass here

I'm bound for the Great North..well Michigan anyways, to visit with family and old friends. I am soo ready to get out this N'awlins heat I could scream. It is around 100 degrees everyday with ridiculous humidity (one certainly needs gills to breath) plus I've come upon the ripe age of pre-menopause and the hot flashes are not helping. Oh how I dream of a cool Michigan summer.

Our plans are to head to the Upper Peninsula for a camping trip. I hope to dip my naked body into the icy cold Lake Superior (I promise I will do this at night as to not frighten anyone:) and spend some evenings around the campfire with some of my favorite people, my sisters, my daughter and my niece.

Allie the Orphan

Allie lives at 1000 Magazine Street, address of St. Mary's Orphanage. Allie got dropped off at the orphanage not long ago. She was having a hard time making friends as Allie was considered the 'pretty' girl and everyone knew that reduced their chances of getting a new mommy and daddy on showing day.
Making these dolls has been such a great learning experience for me. Plus I so identify with these little orphans. Doll making is a process, there are so many facets and techniques it could take a life time to really learn them all. I have a tendency to envelope myself in the new things I learn and then move on....but I believe I have a few more of these orphans up my sleeve.

Iris Resident of 7717 St. Charles Ave.

These characters and their stories are keeping me up at night:) They keep coming to me at the strangest times and I guess it was just time to start bringing them to life again. If this is the first you've seen on the 7717 St. Charles Ave series you can get a little background here

I know I say it all the time but I feel like the luckiest girl alive to live in a city that is so absolutely inspiring. Everyday something or someone I see motivates me creatively. I truly am blessed.

So here is Iris.... She's a bit more proper than most the ladies I make who are usually still in their undergarments.

Iris lived at 7717 St. Charles Ave with her new, fairly wealthy husband. He had met Iris on the streets in the Quarter. Being homeless and indigent she had just recently dropped her twin girls Addy and Emmy off at St. Mary's Orphanage as she could no longer care for them. Iris's new husband was kind and cared for Iris very much. But Iris could never recover the fact that when she went to get her girls from the orphanage after her marriage they were gone, having been adopted. They said it a was mysterious death, but people who knew Iris knew full well there was no mystery, Iris had died from a broken heart. Iris is buried in cemetery No. 1 at the corner of Prytania and Washington.
