Marriage and a Mortgage

Alright a snowman gets one chance in life and it's all about placement, placement. Sal got rolled up this morning by a bunch of kids and dang if they didn't just set him right there in the noon day sun. Could we get a little supervision here!! It's already heating up and now that darn dog of theirs has come around and done his business right on Sal. Poor Sal.
So even with Arthur hanging around yesterday I was able to finish this creepy little snowman.
You know it's funny 10 years ago before I was married, had a child and a mortgage I would sculpt these large size happy naked dancing pagan type sculptures. Nowadays I sculpt these small, worried and anxiety ridden little characters. Hmmmm, there is no doubt art is imitating my life. I still see myself as that wild and happy dancing chick but these are what come out. If I weren't able to see the humor in this reality I might go crazy. Some days I feel like a pee'd on snowman, but you know what that is kind of funny.

This Guy Arthur

So today Arthur has come to visit. Arthur is this cranky guy I am forced to deal with from time to time. No, not my husband, his name is Lee and he's a pretty great guy. Arthur is a nickname, short for Arthritis, RA (rheumatoid arthritis) to be exact. When Arthur is around there is not much creativity going on. He comes uninvited and usually stays awhile. Sometimes during his visits I have to stay in bed, other times I'm able to get up and walk around, just very slowly. Arthur is a son of a gun, putting it nicely, but he's not going away and I'm learning to deal with him. I usually try to be nice and make him as comfortable as possible and hope he'll be gone by tomorrow.

First Entry

Well I guess I'm finally going to do it, start blogging. Hey all the cool kids are doing it!!

My main focus will be sculpture. Check out my shop on Etsy . I love working with clay, polymer clay, papier mache and paper clay. Anything I can squish, squeeze and shape in my hands. I've been doing it for 15 years, self taught and learning more everyday.

I also plan to feature many of the other amazing artists I find and am inspired by in many different mediums.

So I guess I'll just get started and all the other creepy lil details will come out as I go.

Here's a picture of a new doll. I call him The Lost Buttonboy. Inspired by a freaky book I recently read. I had intended to read this book with my 8 year old daughter NoraLeigh and was very glad that I picked it up and read it alone one rainy afternoon. The book is Coraline and it is one of the scariest books I have read in along time. There are characters in the book called The Others and they have buttons for eyes. I tried to create a piece that relayed the creepiness this book and it's characters instilled.
