Billy

Meet Billy

I don't make too many boys. Not sure why, I guess I never was really been around lil boys. I have a daughter and I had two sisters. I did have a little brother but when we were young he mostly just bugged me. (I do love him dearly as an adult I assure you:) Perhaps it's because boys wear boring clothes, no pretty frilly dresses.

I do like Billy's little outfit though and would much like one in my own size. You may recall a while back the argument between me and my sewing machine, well it seems my sewing machine was just old and has finally bit the dust. So I had to sew Billy's clothing entirely by hand. I do a lot of hand stitching anyway so it's nothing new but I can't say I've ever sewn an entire suit from hand, thank goodness it's only 6" in size:)

I must be getting old as the thought of hand sewing this outfit by hand 10 years ago....well I just wouldn't have had the patience. Now I find all those tiny little stitches to be quite relaxing and rewarding. To be honest it didn't take nearly as long as I would have thought. I think there was more fighting with my sewing machine than actual sewing. Every time I would get it out my blood pressure would go up in anticipation of the trouble that was about to ensue. I guess that explains why the hand sewing was so relaxing.

Anyway, I have another little boy I will be working on today. I will be hand stitching his clothing as well and I'm actually looking forward to it.

Dear Sewing Machine - RIP

I know exactly what you mean! A lot of the time I think to myself that it would be much faster and a lot less frustrating to just sew by hand and not battle with that stupid sewing machine that makes tangled thread messes.
I promised my niece a rag dog doll for her birthday and the thought of bobbin battles makes me keep procrastinating!
LOVE the little Boy!

I LOVE Billy! And his outfit! Do yourself a favor, and upgrade your machine. It makes all the difference. Unless you now prefer the slower pace of hand sewing. I know just how calming working with your hands can be.

You're and amazing artist!

Love him! I also find hand-sewing very relaxing- the sewing machine scares me.

I have two sisters and two daughters. I rarely draw boys, and have never made a boy doll.

Thanks everyone for stopping by.
It's funny when something new, like handsewing seems so daunting then when you actually do it something you really enjoy.

I outta try more new things:)

He is great, love his outfit, but how can you live without a sewing machine, it would be like losing a arm LOL. I do a lot of handwork too, but my hands hurt from it, gettin old is a drag
But he is a cutie
your fairy friend

I battle with my sewing machine regularly as well. I love him! I must say I absolutely love the faces you give you dolls, and those eyes are so endearing. Creepy & cute at the same time.

He's great I like his suit too.
Sometimes i hand sew just because it's such a hassel getting out the sewing machine and setting it up,Oh for a bigger workspace where it could be set up and ready.

I love him Colleen, I know what you mean about the hand sewing. I like it too, find it rewarding and relaxing. Don't know where I find patience for it, I'm just a quick results kind of girl but I love costuming with hand sewing.

Billy is just fabulous. He shows that woman vs machine is alive and well, and little boys can hold their own in frills! Beautiful job.
