Contessa

Oh my poor blog. Do y'all ever feel like there is just never enough time in a day.....I'm sure you do!! With summer vacation in the near future for my little one I fear I will have even less time for creating and blogging, on the bright side there will be lots of play, swimming and hanging out with my very favorite doll:)

Meet Contessa. Contessa was a number of firsts for me. She is the first pose-able doll I've made that can actually sit and stand. OzlemAkin's zany dolls was the inspiration for me. I've been wanting to do try this for awhile and I was pleasantly surprised to find it easier than I anticipated.

Contessa also came about in a rather weird way. When I sat down to create her I realized I had no Super Sculpey (the clay I usually use for my dolls) I also had no car to go get any clay. What I did have was a bunch of black clay. So I said what the heck and I sculpted her entirely out of black clay. I sponged on a bunch of layers of acrylic paint after firing and added some pastels. I completely love the effect and will definitely be doing more. It's funny how sometimes what seems like a bad thing (not having clay) can turn into a great thing!!

Thanks Yve. I know it's funny how small things make a big difference.

Little secret....I don't knit either:) Her dress is a vintage Ginny doll dress. I love the vintage style of these clothes plus they fit my dolls perfectly!!

She turned out great, love the experiments going on over there, sometimes we have to make do, and we have to create

Haha..I know about the "not having time" thing!

Contessa is amazing--I know about the dark undercolor making for rich painting--she is definitely unique! :) I love "happy accidents", too!

I took Contessa on location for some photos and she responded very well. Had to change photos to the 'artsy' ones:)

Colleen,
I love the picture of Contessa on the park bench. She looks like she's waiting for someone to come and take her home.

I agree with the lack of supplies enhancing creativity. Some of my best work has come about when I didn't have 'the right' supplies.

I hope you have a lovely summer with your doll :].

I'm flattered to hear that I was able to inspire you :)
She looks lovely, and I'm also happy to hear that making sitting and standing dolls is not a mystery to you anymore..

Cheers..

Is there directions on how to make a posing doll??? You use sulpty not femo? I haven't tried doing baked clay dolls yet.

I love painting over a dark color that is what I do over black or darks then I leave a little lines around lips and eyes...I like the way the paint shows through.
