Yesterday we had the most lovely day amongst the dead! In New Orleans we have the most beautiful cemeteries. My sister decided it would be the perfect backdrop for some photos for her shop avantegarb and I agreed. So we set out with our cameras to the corner of Prytania and Washington street in the infamous Garden District to see what we could see. I armed my daughter with a digital camera too, so she could take pictures of what she found interesting. These are her images and I absolutely love them!!
The cemeteries are so inspirational to me, the lack of color, the textures and depth, the untold stories of the graves an their occupants, a real treat!!

What an awesome place ot find inspiration!! strange how it can be beautiful and dark at he same time. I like the feel I get from the photos. Kool day out and it does make a great place to shoot photos.

I have a passion for exploring old cemetaries, reading the headstones and
appreciating the work on a long-ago headstone/monument and just reflecting on people that have gone before us.
I think to stroll the
paths of a New Orleans
cemetary would be wonderful. And, yes, a
great place to take pics!
Wishing you a wonderful
New Year's!

Sue
I have walked through some of those New Orleans cemetaries too. I think a child must see them so differently, much more like a city street than graveyard.
PS I am diggin those pants!!!!
Thanks for your comments all. The cemetaries are really an amazing place to visit. I grew up in Michigan where we put our dead underground..totally different concept and feel.
Nat I wonder what my daughter thinks. I know she totally enjoys our trips to the cemetaries..no worries or fears, in fact I'm quite sure it is fun for her. I like that.
