Lillian ADO MMC Challenge Piece

I did it, I did it! I made a face that isn't sad and I am so delighted with sweet little Lillian!
I made this piece for the ADO Mini Monthly Team Challenge, the theme was emotions. Dag nabbit if I wasn't determined to make a face that wasn't sad.

I'll be honest it wasn't easy. I had the mirror out and was pulling all kinds of faces. I kept my reference books handy and smooshed quite a few faces before she finally emerged.

Oh her emotion..bated excitement:)

The Prince was coming to Lillian's village in the Royal Parade and Lillian was so very excited. The last time he visited the outlying village she was just a child, but she had grown and developed and he was sure to notice her this time.

Amber's Brother Toby

Toby has a sister named Amber, she wants to be a famous actress, "yeah right", Toby says. Toby puts frogs in Amber's bed at night and gives her a mega wedgie every change he gets. Dads always to drunk to notice and moms never around so he can torment Amber all he likes. Ah..how he loves his baby sister.

Amber

Amber dreamed of being a famous actress. She got kicked out of drama club because yet again dad was to drunk to drive her to the classes and mom was off playing bingo. So what, Amber thought, who needed those stupid classes? There was enough drama right here at home and Amber would learn from the best. She WOULD become a famous actress dammit!!

Amber is a full sculpted doll. A technique I haven't done in quite sometime. Funny, before I ventured into this crazy world of art dolls I considered myself a sculptor and every aspect of my work was sculpted. Making Amber made me feel a bit like the sculptor I view myself as.

Amber also is a hanging doll. I tried to make her look as though she was hanging from a meat hook..I think I almost got it. How ideal to hang an art doll. I don't know about y'all but I never have enough shelf space so a hanging doll is perfect in my book.

Unfortunate Babies

This is an Unfortunate Baby, you really don't want to know any further details.

I had a great time making a set of four of these poor unfortunate fellows the other day. Bertrand was the first, he is Bernice's son

One of my ADO friends suggested making ornaments similar to Bertrand, so I did and oh what fun!

Sarah Came Home

My Traveling Doll, Sarah came home yesterday and we are so thrilled. Rather than re-post about this experience I'm going to link you to the Traveling Doll Blog where you can read all about this amazing experience.
NoraLeigh has not taken her eyes or hands off this doll since she arrived. She definitely has a new BFF!
Sarah even got to go to our evening out at the neighbors for red beans and rice (a Monday staple here in New Orleans) she and her little friends had a wonderful time!!

Camille Keeper of the Crows

Ever since Camille can remember the crows have been attracted to her. They would sit on her window sill when she was a baby in her crib. They would follow her to school as a adolescent and through the years they have always flocked around her. She loves the crows, actually much more than people. She tells them her secrets and they tell her theirs.

With Camille I've returned to making doll clothes again. It definitely takes longer but I really enjoy coming up with my own designs and oddly enough I find all those tiny stitches to be very relaxing and I love holding and working with the vintage fabrics and trims.
Camille is the largest doll I've ever made. She measures approx 20" tall. She sports the first pair of shoes I've ever made, leather riding boots. I've always admired doll makers who actually make shoes and thought I'd give it a go. Surprisingly it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Is it Ever to Early for Halloween?

Too early for Halloween?? Never. I've decided to start working on my Halloween pieces. Halloween is such a inspirational holiday for doll artists. I have a number of ideas up my sleeve and am so eager to really get started with them.

Lil Audrey here is my first of the season. I've given her a little friend, Skully and a witch hat but I decided to make both removable so that she could really be displayed all year round.

Best Friends

Aren't best friends the best!! I remember being nine..the whole world was so wide open and fun (well except when I had to clean my room or eat my broccoli)
My daughter NoraLeigh (on the right) and her best friend Gracie blessed us with a fashion show the other night. They got into the big ol Mardi Gras costume box and came up with some amazing ensembles. What fun.
